Winding Brook Stormwater Pond
Problem
The existing stormwater treatment pond at Winding Brook was undersized and in a state of disrepair. It had become overgrown with vegetation. In addition, the pond did not meet current stormwater treatment standards established by the State of Vermont.
Description
In 2009, residents in the Winding Brook condominiums worked with the South Burlington Stormwater Utility to upgrade the neighborhood’s existing stormwater detention pond. The pond was redesigned so that it would provide treatment and detention of stormwater runoff.
Benefit
Sediment and other pollutants are removed from stormwater runoff leaving the Winding Brook neighborhood. In addition, the stormwater runoff is detained and slowly released to prevent erosion of streambanks and reduce the risk of downstream flooding.
