Projects - Street Sweeping Program
Location
Throughout South Burlington
Problem
Sediment and debris from cars, trucks, and
littering collects on the sides of streets in
South Burlington. Heavy rains can wash
this debris down storm drains and into
streams. Larger debris can clog up storm
pipes and cause flooding. Smaller particles
can flow into our lakes, rivers, and streams,
harming fish and wildlife.
Benefit
Street sweeping cleans streets and collects
debris before it makes it into our water
resources, keeping our water healthy and
clean.
Description
The city owns two street sweepers that use
vacuum power to collect debris off of the
streets. Brooms sweep up debris that is
then vacuumed into a large tank. Street
sweepers use only a small amount of water
to control dust.
Dates/Timeline
The City of South Burlington sweeps all its
streets at least twice per year. Busier streets
are swept more frequently.
