Quarry Ridge Stormwater Pond

Problem

The existing pond at Quarry Ridge was undersized and in a state of disrepair. Pipes were plugged with sediment and debris and significant erosion was occurring at the pond outlet. In addition, the pond did not meet current stormwater treatment standards established by the State of Vermont.

Description

In 2009, residents in the Quarry Ridge neighborhood worked with the South Burlington Stormwater Utility to upgrade the old detention pond. The pond was redesigned so that it would provide treatment and detention of stormwater runoff.

Benefit

Sediment and other pollutants are removed from stormwater runoff leaving the Quarry Ridge neighborhood. In addition, the stormwater runoff is detained and slowly released to prevent erosion of streambanks and reduce the risk of downstream flooding.
