Projects - Dorset Street Stormwater Treatment, Streambank Revegetation,
and Culvert Replacement
Location
Dorset Street crossing under I-89
Problem
An undersized culvert and lack of treatment of
highway-related stormwater runoff was causing a change in
the flow of water and deposit of sediment in the main stem of
Potash Brook.
Description
- Replace an undersized culvert with one that allows peak
stream flows to move through without causing flooding or
erosion problems
- Replant the streambanks in a natural design that will
prevent erosion and provide streambank habitat
- Repair eroded channels that are leading to sediment deposit
in the stream
- Provide natural stormwater treatment through wetland
filtering and bank stabilization
Benefit
This multi-part project will improve all aspects of water
quality, hydrology and stream channel quality at this critical
point on the main stem of Potash Brook.
