Please explore the rest of our site to learn more about the Utility and its benefits, and how stormwater affects South Burlington. What is Stormwater?
The City of South Burlington is working to reduce the negative impacts of stormwater runoff and improve the water quality in local streams and Lake Champlain. Stormwater is rain that runs off impervious surfaces such as rooftops, paved streets, driveways, highways, parking lots, packed gravel roads, and hard surfaces. All properties with impervious surfaces generate stormwater runoff. Stormwater can be seen flowing down the sides of roads during a heavy rainstorm. This water flows into storm drains found on the side of roads and in parking lots. Storm drains are part of a complex system of underground pipes, collectors, ponds, and outfalls that manage stormwater runoff and minimize its harmful effects. Quick Links |
